The brackets are made from tooth-colored or clear brackets, making them harder to see compared to conventional metal braces. Therefore, they're a great option for older teens and adults who want to straighten their teeth but don't like the look of traditional metal braces. However, they do need more care than metal braces since they may become stained or yellow if not regularly cleaned. With removable teeth aligning treatments, you face the chance of prolonging treatment when an aligner is missing or not used for the suggested period of time. What to Expect
On the day of your visit, Dr. Benson will clean and polish your teeth with a special cleaner. The clear brackets will be carefully positioned on each individual tooth using the Smile Arc Protection system. When the brackets are in their proper position, a UV (ultraviolet) light will be used to harden the adhesive. This easy procedure shouldn't result in any discomfort and attaches the brackets to your teeth. The last step is threading the wire through each of the brackets and fastening the wire to the brackets. The whole procedure normally takes a few hours to finish.
Follow-Up
Once your braces are set, you might have some discomfort as your gums, teeth, and lips adapt to your orthodontic treatment. You should brush your teeth after every meal and floss at least once a day to keep your teeth and ceramic braces in good condition. You will need to schedule follow-up appointments with Dr. Benson so she can monitor your progress and adjust your braces as needed. Once your teeth are in place and your braces are removed, Dr. Benson will suggest a retainer to maintain your results.
